The Federal Rocking Chairs
We do not know the name of the colonial furniture maker who in the late 1700's built the first rocker, but we do know it has been very popular since then with almost every American home having at least one. Rocking Chairs are part of our rich American history that endures today. John F Kennedy, who had back problems, was told by his own doctor that a rocker would help, and thus he had many rocking chairs in the White House, and even on Air Force One. Another president Abraham Lincoln, was fond of them and was sitting in a rocking chair on that fateful night when he was assassinated at Ford’s Theater.
