Sustainability and Stewardship

The Ferd Sobol Editions Practices Environmental Sustainability & Stewardship

For almost a century, The Ferd Sobol Editions has had a lasting love affair with wood. Ferd has been building the world’s finest miniature furniture for more than a third of a century and has honored a deep respect for the forests of our planet. And even though 1/12th scale furniture requires only a small amount of wood, it still requires that a tree be felled.

Ferd has always been very selective in the sources of his exotic woods, and only purchases from those harvesters who are committed to the sustainability of valued forests that grow rare or exotic woods.

It is a small step, in a mini scale on a large planet. But as in most things, every bit counts, and all the small steps when combined add up to the journey taken by The Workshop Wizard over his lifetime.Miniature collectors across the globe have shared their pleasure upon learning about his practices.

In 2014, 30 years after their very first article about him in their premier issue, noted magazine   “American Woodworker” did a full follow up on his career and honored him by their highest esteemed title naming Ferd,  “A Great  American Woodworker”.

On the left he holds his popular edition The Console Table. The tiny inlay of an Aladdin’s Lamp on the front has an ebony base.  On the right in his left hand is The Curved Curio Cabinet which uses numerous species of wood. The spirit of the forest remains in each and every edition Ferd builds. Read & see much more at the blog.
